About Us

The Andean Bear Foundation is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit in the USA, and funds the Andean Bear Project’s research, conservation, rescue, rehabilitation and release of Andean bears in Ecuador.
Find the Andean Bear Foundation on the Guidestar search engine for non-profits, or on the IRS charities search engine.   (The Andean Bear Project was in the past a part of an Ecuadorian non-profit, Espíritu del Bosque, which has now changed its objectives to be a rescue center for all animals).
The President of the Andean Bear Foundation and manager of the Andean Bear Project is Armando Castellanos, an Ecuadorian biologist and Andean bear expert.  The rest of this section contains information about our staff and our bears, including the most famous, Bubu the Andean bear.
